Do you have concerns about your child's developmental skills? If so, and if your child is age 3-5 years old, you can participate in a free screening offered by the Three Lakes School District. These screenings allow us to identify those children who could benefit from early intervention.
Child Find Screenings are comprehensive in nature and address:
- Health and physical development (sleep habits, dressing, toileting, eating, writing, climbing, walking and running
- Social and emotional development (expressing feelings, forming friendships, resolving conflicts)
- Language and communication (listening and understanding)
- Approaches to learning (curiosity and excitement about learning, persistence, approaches taken to learn new information)
- Cognition and general knowledge (hypothesizes and making predictions, forms explanations based on trial-and-error/observations/explorations, understands color and number patterns)
We do not screen for isolated skill areas (for example, we do not screen for articulation only). These are screenings, and are not an evaluation for special education.
Screenings throughout the year
Each month, Three Lakes School District will conduct screenings for children ages 3-5 who are not enrolled in a district elementary school. Each screening takes about 45 minutes, which includes time to review results and recommendations with parents and/or guardians.
In Sugar Camp, screenings occur on the first or second Tuesday of the month from 2-3 pm, and in Three Lakes, screenings occur on the first or second Friday of the month from 8-9:15 am.
Screenings held during the school year
During the school year, Three Lakes School District will conduct screenings during the school day for 4K and kindergarten students enrolled in our district. Once the special education team completes the screening, parents will receive a follow-up call and/or letter outlining the results and recommendations.
