Virtual learning days are an opportunity for our school district to engage students and teachers outside of the traditional school day. They are especially helpful during snow or inclement weather days, but can also be used during times of widespread illness, days when teachers are undergoing professional development and more. The goal of virtual learning is to continue the momentum of learning by using new and emerging methods of delivering instructional programming.
Virtual Learning Day FAQ
How does a Virtual Learning Day work?
If school is canceled, the district may announce a virtual learning day for the junior high and high school. Students should log in to Canvas to receive assignments from their teachers. Lessons will be posted by 9 am on a virtual learning day. Teachers will be available to answer questions via email or through Canvas during a virtual learning day. Availability hours are the same as a regular school day.
What type of assignments will students receive?
Assignments can take many forms. Some teachers might post a video that they would have shown in class or they might ask their students to review a PowerPoint presentation or recording. Other teachers might choose to assign a short reading or give a more traditional assignment.
When are assignments due?
Assignments are due within two days of the virtual learning day.
What if we don't have Internet access?
Our goal is to remain flexible in this blended/virtual learning environment. If a student is unable to access assignments because he or she does not have access to WiFi, classroom teachers will work with the students upon return to face-to-face instruction.
