Dear Parents:
The start of another great school year is here, and we look forward to welcoming our students back on September 1st.
Lunch prices for 2023-2024 will be as follows: 4K-6 $3/day, 7-12 $3.25/day, adult lunch $4.65, and extra milk 45¢/carton. Breakfast is available for students in grades 4K-6 at a cost of $1.45/day, grades 7-12 $1.70/day and adult breakfast $2.56.
Free and reduced-price meals are available for those who qualify. Reduced prices meals will be 40 cents for lunch and 30 cents for breakfast. If you have not already been notified of your student’s free/reduced meal status, please fill out an application to see if your family qualifies. Completed applications can be returned to the school office.
The Wisconsin School Day Milk Program (snack milk) for students in grades 4K-3 will be 40 cents per day for those students who are not eligible for free/reduced lunch. The cost of milk will be deducted from your child’s account in the same way breakfast and/or lunch costs are, if applicable.
This year, a second breakfast service will be offered to grades 7-12 tentatively scheduled between 2nd and 3rd hours. Grades 4-6 will have the option for salad bar during lunch service.
Schools are facing the same challenges many grocery stores and other places are having with getting all of the food supplies they need. When this happens, our school nutrition team does everything they can to serve healthy meals to students. Sometimes that means needing to swap out some foods for others because some foods are easier to get which can cause unplanned changes to the school breakfast and lunch menus. Please be patient with our staff who strive to serve students healthy meals during this time of supply chain issues.
We are continuing our automated debit system for this school year. As a reminder, all students will receive a laminated ID card that will be scanned when they go through the lunch line. All students must have money in their account at the start of the school year – you may call the high school office and use a credit card to post money to your student’s account or use the on-line payment method through the Infinite Campus parent portal. Lunch balances from last school year have been carried forward.
Parents who send checks to the school are requested to send them prior to the start of the school year. This will eliminate problems with long lines on the first day of school. Please be sure to put the student’s first and last name on your check, or send a memo with the check indicating how you would like the money distributed in student accounts if you have more than one student attending in the district. If you are unable to send money before the start of the school year and students bring money to school, elementary students should turn their money in to their teacher, and students in 7-12 grades should bring their money to the high school office. If you have any questions, please call the school office for assistance.
When account balances become negative, students/parents will be contacted by telephone, text, e-mail, or letter informing them of this. Free and reduced student’s accounts will be coded appropriately in the system, and these students will go through the line with an ID card the same as all the rest of the students. We remind students that free and reduced lunches are regulated by the state, and their ID cards cannot be used by any other student. Students who qualify for reduced-price lunch must bring money for their accounts on or before the first day of school the same as regular-price students. Every student must have money in their account for ala carte items, extra milk, or miscellaneous purchases. Cash will not be accepted in the lunch line.
We encourage all families who feel they may qualify for free or reduced meal prices to return an application form to the school as soon as possible so students will be able to receive their free or reduced price meals at the start of the school year. It is important that the district has all families who feel they qualify for free or reduced price meals to apply for this benefit with the district because many grant programs are based on the number of students who qualify for free or reduced meals in the district. We cannot have an accurate free and reduced meal count that benefits the district if those who qualify do not apply. Remember that free and reduced price meals can only be credited after this application form has been processed. The approval is not retroactively applied.
The Board of Education, administration and staff of the Three Lakes School District appreciate your active participation in your child(ren)’s education. We look forward to starting another great year with you. If you have any questions, or if we can be of assistance, please give us a call.
Very truly yours,
Theresa Maney
District Administrator
