About Me
Hello, my name is Maureen Hicks, and I am a 7th grade teacher at Three Lakes Jr. High School. I currently teach 7th grade social studies and 7th grade math.
I was born in Sheboygan, and am the youngest sibling in a family of six children. I attended Sheboygan North High School and then graduated from UW-Whitewater with a degree in Elementary Education grades 1-8. I also have a minor in psychology.
I met my husband, Larry, in college, and after graduation, we decided to make the Northwoods our permanent home. After seven years teaching junior high, owning and operating a preschool for several years, and two years with special education, I am fortunate to be working with junior high students once again. My husband and I have two beautiful girls. We enjoy spending our weekends with family and friends. Our family loves time on the lake and our long winter months. We have a home in Sugar Camp and love living in the beauty of the Northwoods.
Teaching Philosophy
My teaching philosophy has evolved through my years as an educator. My beliefs for teaching and learning have become stronger each day I have spent in the classroom. I believe in promoting positive learning in which each student learns in his or her individual way.
In saying that, I believe each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring and safe environment to grow emotionally and intellectually and socially. I believe in risk-taking and sharing ideas. I believe in teaching to the individual needs of each child so that all learners in our classroom will feel success. I aim to bring an open mind, a positive attitude, and appropriate expectations to the classroom each day. I believe I owe it to my students and the community to bring diligence and warmth to my job and to ultimately inspire and encourage these traits in each of my students.
