Hello to all! My name is Katie Bauknecht, and I am so excited to be the sixth grade teacher at Sugar Camp Elementary! I am a 2008 Three Lakes High School graduate, and this year is especially meaningful because I get to teach in the very same classroom where I was once a sixth grader myself. It feels so good to be home.

After high school, I bounced around a few colleges and majors before I realized my true calling: teaching. In 2010, I entered the distance learning program part-time at the University of Wisconsin–Superior, and after years of balancing a mortgage, a marriage, two Labradors, three jobs and a hobby farm, I graduated in 2016. I firmly believe that the long road to this profession made me a stronger and more grateful teacher.

This will be my ninth year teaching, but my very first year teaching sixth grade—and I know it will be the best yet! As a former student, I know what being part of this community means: pride, respect and rigor.

My teaching philosophy is simple: High expectations coupled with authentic learning experiences create lasting memories and a lifelong love of learning.
